Natural Heritage Areas
This INSPIRE data set publishes the data for the locations of the Natural Heritage Areas in Ireland, a layer in the INSPIRE Protected Sites data theme for the Republic of Ireland.The basic designation for wildlife is the Natural Heritage Area (NHA). This is an area considered nationally important for the habitats present or that holds species of plants and animals whose habitat needs protection. They are protected under the Wildlife (Amendment) Act of 2000. This is a national dataset.

This spatial dataset and associated web services is currently presented in EPSG:4258 (ETRS89 geographical coordinates). In order to comply with the INSPIRE Directive, this spatial dataset and associated web services was transformed from Irish Transverse Mercator projection to ETRS89. The majority of site boundaries were originally digitised from Ordnance Survey of Ireland 1:10560 six-inch raster data in Irish Grid.
