DK INSPIRE AM Quiet Areas
Et stilleområde er et offentligt tilgængeligt område, hvor støjen er forholdsvis lav, og hvor en kommune har et ønske om at bevare området som stille eller at forbedre stilheden. Man skelner mellem to typer stilleområder. Stilleområder i det åbne land , som er præget af naturlig stilhed, og hvor naturens egne lyde dominerer indtrykket. Stilleområder i byer , fx parker, hvor der er forholdsvis stille, og som er let tilgængelige. Når en kommune har valgt at udpege og afgrænse stilleområder, optages de i kommuneplanens redegørelsesdel, og på den måde kan det sikres at fremtidige anlæg ikke forstyrrer stilheden.

Stilleområder blev indført med implementeringen af EU direktiv 2002/49/EF om kortlægning af støj og udarbejdelse af støjhandlingsplaner i Støjkortlægningsbekendtgørelsen. I hovedstadsområdet er der udpeget 13 stilleområder som fx grønne parker og kirkegårde. Stilleområder, støjkort og handlingsplaner indrapporteres til EU's Miljøagetur hvert 5. år og offentliggøres efterfølgende på MiljøGIS
