INSPIRE Theme Annex I Coordinate Reference Systems - Dataset of Hungary - Hungarian national GPS network (VAB)
The first unified Hungarian vertical reference network was created after the 1880s; the elevations were determined in relation with the Adriatic base level (Nadap, Hungary) as reference. After 1957, the Baltic Sea level became the new reference base. The network has gradually been densified with lines of 2nd, 3rd and 4th order; the new networks set up in the meantime have been revised. Because of the overlays among different networks, the exact number of the countrywide registered controls cannot be given. The total number is estimated between 30 000 and 40 000. From the second half of the 1960s, an Earth crust movement monitoring network has been gradually developed. The control points of that network have been stabilized by deep-founding (3–6 m) and with increased care.

These control points can only be used for scientific purpose. Their data cannot be serviced for the purpose of everyday geodetic jobs. The Archives can only supply data of control points of 1st, 2nd and 3rd order, while the data of 4th order controls can be purchased from the archives of the territorially competent land offices.
