Kystnærhedszonen omfatter "landzonerne" og "sommerhusområderne" i kystområderne.

Kystområderne omfatter et areal på ca. 3 km fra kystlinjen. OBS. Senere ændringer i lovgivningen betyder at "eksisterende byzone" ikke er omfattet af bestemmelserne vedrørende kystnærhedszonen.

Den oprindelige kystnærhedszone er digitaliseret amt for amt. Printede detailkort over kystnærhedszonen i målestok 1:100.000 er udsendt til kommuner og amter i forbindelse med Miljøministeriets vejledning nr. 76 af 27. april 1993.
