Debris slide and debris flow - rough susceptibility zones
Susceptibility areas for debris slides and debris flows reveal potential runout areas for all type of soil landslides, with the exception of quick clay slides and large debris flows in river channels.
The entire runout area should be assessed when using the dataset for analysis purposes. The runout area includes all the area where the landslide still contains material that can be deposited. If the water content of the landslide is very high, the water can continue to travel farther than the solid material.
The susceptibility map may be useful in connection with monitoring and contingency planning, particularly in vulnerable areas where more detailed maps are unavailable.

-
The susceptibility map for debris slides and debris flows show areas that may potentially be affected by these landslide types.
The map is intended as a basis for initial assessment of the risk of debris slides and debris flows in connection
with spatial planning and development in areas where the risk of landslides is not mapped in greater detail.
Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate guidelines "Flaum- og skredfare i arealplanar" describe this in greater detail.
The maps indicate nothing about likelihood, and so they cannot be used to assess development pursuant to
the safety requirements in the technical building regulations.

The methods used in the production of the susceptibility map are described in detail in a report made by the Geological Survey of Norway (Fischer et al., 2014).
The maps are created using two different numerical-topographic models; one
for source areas and one for landslide run-out in which the input parameters are calculated and adjusted manually
in relation to topography, geology and previous landslide activity in the area. Both the identification of source areas and run-out modelling are based on the Norwegian Mapping Authority's latest digital elevation model (DEM) with spatial resolution 10x10 m (2012).
