Kortlægningen følger bestemmelserne fastsat i EU direktiv 2002/49 med efterfølgende ændringer senest implementeret i støjkortlægningsbekendtgørelsen nr. 2092 af 18/11/2021. Større veje, der opfylder kriterierne >3 mio. køretøjer/år (> 8.000 ÅDT) samt øvrige veje uden for større, samlede byområder, hvor støjbelastning er større end Lnight = 50 dB skal kortlægges.
