Death means the permanent disappearance of all evidence of life at any time after live birth has taken place (postnatal cessation of vital functions without capability of resuscitation). Infant death means the death of a live-born infant who has not yet completed one year of life. The completeness of the tables depends on the availability of data received from the responsible Public Authorities in Malta and Gozo. This information is also compiled basing on a harmonised methodology also stipulated by European Regulation (EC) No. 1260/2013. The following information is published on an annual basis, of which some is also transmitted to Eurostat.
