Marine reporting units

The data set consists of marine reporting units divided according to HELCOM guidelines into 8 subregions to be assessed. In addition, the data set also includes descriptor 3 assessment areas (commercially exploited fish and invertebrate species) in which fish stock is assessed, as well as transitional water bodies set out Water Framework Directive.

Statement

Marine Strategy Framework Directive establishes European marine regions, and the Baltic Sea is one marine region. As a part of the HELCOM CORESET work, the Baltic Sea was divided into subregions. The Polish part of the Baltic Sea is qualified to 8 sub-regions. Pursuant to Polish legislation, Polish maritime areas include, in accordance with the Act of 21 March 1991 on the maritime areas of the Republic of Poland, three types of water bodies: internal sea waters, territorial sea and the exclusive economic zone.
