Location of Fishing Aggregation Devices (FADs)

Every year the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture (DFA) issues a call for applications (together with a set of conditions) for those vessels interested to lay Fishing Aggregation Devices (FADs). This data was included as part of the dataset used for one of the co-financed EU LIFE+ Funding Programmes - LIFE BaĦAR for N2K project.

Statement

After applications are received, the Department sets a date for the selection of the FAD trajectory and follows the same procedure every year. The location of FADs is kept constant from year to year. As per Council Regulation (EC) no 1967/2006 no more than 130 vessels can be authorized to fish with the FADs within the 25nm Fisheries Management Zone around the Maltese Islands.This data was included as part of the dataset used for one of the co-financed EU LIFE+ Funding Programmes - LIFE BaĦAR for N2K project.
