Statement

Dataset transformed in its entirety to the INSPIRE 2D extended BU model, populating building features. The geometry of buildings is defined as a multi-surface feature that represents the footprint of all the existing constructions above ground. In the 1960s Gipuzkoa´s Provincial Council began the creation of 1:5,000 cartography through photogrammetric restitution, and in 1986 initiated the digitisation of the 303 cartographic sheets for the entire territory. In 1988, urban datasets at 1:1,000 were integrated with 1:5,000 data in a common topographic base. Urban centres, roads and reservoirs at 1:500 scale started to be integrated in 1995. This shared and common topographic base in now maintained daily using ortophotographs and topographic maps at 1:5,000 and larger scales. From this topographic base, buildings are cross-matched with alphanumerical data from provincial cadastre in order to provide the information required by INSPIRE. Both datasets, topographic and cadastral, are updated on an ongoing basis.
