Live birth means the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a result of conception, irrespective of the duration of pregnancy, which after such separation, breathes or shows any other evidence of life, such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta is attached: each result of such a birth is considered live-born, regardless of gestational age. The completeness of the tables depends on the availability of data received from the responsible Public Authorities in Malta and Gozo. This information is also compiled basing on a harmonised methodology also stipulated by European Regulation (EC) No. 1260/2013. The following information is published on an annual basis. For the year 2010 and 2011 there are a few cases which have unknown locality. For the year 2010, there are 3 boys and 5 girls (8 total) while in 2011 there are 1 boy and 1 girl (total 2) which are listed as unspecified. It is imperative that the unspecified are added to the total live births in each locality in order to have the correct totals
