Hydroelectric power system - utilised catchments
This dataset includes the hydroelectric power system as administered by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate. The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate's administration system also deals with dams for purposes other than hydroelectric power production. Regulated lakes affect the watercourses irrespective of purpose, and hence they are also included in our administration systems. The dataset includes all dams and regulated lakes irrespective of purpose. The specification includes both operational and non-operational plants. The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate deals with applications for licences pursuant to the Energy Act and/or watercourses legislation for the construction of hydroelectric power stations and other plants along watercourses. The undeveloped plants include projects dealt with in the watercourse licensing process and the residual potential where no licence has been applied for.

In the 1980s, the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate began to locate all parts of developed hydroelectric power for hydroelectric power stations over 1 MW. In 2006, we also included hydroelectric power stations below 1 MW. From 2008, hydroelectric power undergoing licence processing and hydroelectric power where decisions have been made on licence processing are located and maintained in the administration solution belonging to the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate. \\n\\nPotential hydroelectric power projects were defined by consultants and the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate in the Collective Plan for Watercourses project, which began in the 1980s. They came up with different cost classes and priorities. Nowadays, all new projects above 10 MW or 50 GWh are clarified administratively at the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate in relation to the Collective Plan so that their licences can be processed. This residual potential where no licence application has been submitted covers a small percentage of the hydroelectric power potential. The projects from the Collective Plan for Watercourses that have not been developed or where no licence application has been submitted is defined in the administration solution of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate as the residual potential and has **konsesjonsStatus = Rest**.\\n\\nDams require licensing procedures regardless of purpose, but depending on consequences. From 2014, the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate has also registered lakes which are regulated irrespective of purpose.
